A Home Office for ME!

Well, the time has finally arrived, no more coffee shop meetings! I officially have an office in our house now! I plan to add a bistro table and chairs to the left of my desk for clients to sit at, and of course more and larger images on the walls. (Now that I have a place for displays :) )

Of course the downside to all this is, I now have to keep the house clean!

Here's a couple of views. My desk is the one with the Mac...... The other work space is our PC station... Kewl huh?

The colors aren't real true. The walls by my desk are like the color of a "cherry-mocha" The other side of the room is for lack of a better description "peach-flesh"

What do you think?

I am not an expert, but here are my thoughts: it's great that you now have an office! Yay! And you use a Mac - more yay! Using the flow of energy theory (feng shui), it may better if you arrange your desk in a way that you see who's coming - not your back turned to them. I know it may take up a bit more space, but it does work.

In terms of colour, that's something that you decide based on the aura and image you want to convey. Are your photos subdued or vibrant or both? Are YOU full of energy or laid back? And what kind of workspace nurtures your creative side the most? Or is the office for quiet time, though you will entertain clients there... Blue is good for good communication, red is more for energy and passion. Peach is more a fruit than a colour :) Lavender is for serenity. Or you can combine colours!

Bottomline - if you ask me - your office should portray both your work (your kind of photography) and yourself, and at the same time bring joy to you being there on your own while doing admin stuff. Hope I didn't say too much :)

Thanks Laura, thanks Joy!

You know what is funny about your post Joy? I just had a huge talk with my husband about how I would like it better turned out from the corner. Then asked how much work it would be to turn it all around.

I agree about turning my back to the client and he brought up some good points also.

In the end, the room is small, and the desk would really take up the entire setting turned around. (I secretly think he doesn't want me staring at his monitor when he sits at the pc station hehehe.) It would sacrifice any seating for clients, but like I said, I can sit them in the kitchen or living room. And I wouldn't feel backed into the room when I am back here working, I could look into our living room and see the family if I wanted.

So you know this weekend I bet it gets turned around, even if it is just to "see" what it looks like..... Stay tuned!

As far as color, thanks for the ideas. I suppose I have seen galleries and rooms done up in these colors and I just feel peaceful and productive with them. The warm brownish color is a great neutral background for the images I can display without competing. And it gives me that grounded earthy feeling I suppose. I tend to get jazzed up then stressed, so a calm productive workspace is a must. I feel really comfortable here. Peach isn't quite the correct description but it keeps the room light for it's size. I would love a darker blue, but it would look like a cave in here, and bright would be hard for me to concentrate in I think. The rest of the house is sage greens and buckskin, and deep dark reds.

Thanks for your comments, it's definitely something to think about, and as far as the desk, you know what they say about great minds :)
